Hello, I am Lisa Nigro.
It is nice to meet you. If this is the first time we are meeting here are a few quick facts of how
I went from working the streets to working the soil all in the name of love.
I used to be a Chicago Police Officer
Then I was called to a bigger vision
In 1989, I started serving the homeless on the street.
Then on my 30th birthday I created a restaurant that
serves the homeless called the Inspiration Cafe.
The Cafe was and still is very successful. You can check out
all the magic here: www.inspirationcorp.org
I have been living a full life working in the community and raising my kids.
This is my family.
Emily * Perry * Nick* and Me
Then in 2015 Tragedy struck our family
My 23 year old
son, Nick sustained
a debilitating
brain injury
from a virus
I became Nick's full-time caregiver overnight.
I couldn't work the two jobs I had at the time because of my commitment to Nick's welfare and that scared me because the loss of income really challenged how I was going to pay my bills.
However, sometimes tragedy can bring opportunity and this is what happened for me.
Deep inner reflection led me to thinking about a childhood passion of working in the green industry.
I went back to school to get a certificate in Therapeutic Horticulture.
I put a greenhouse in my basement and created a micro urban farm in my backyard. I created a business called Urban Wild where I sell micro greens, flowers, plant pots and I teach classes all while still being a caregiver for Nick.
This is how I am thriving in the world today.
I basically love getting
my hands dirty
